A mirror cut to the room always looks better than a mirror bought to fit it. Abricos Glass measures the wall, accounts for outlets, sconces, tile edges and out-of-level ceilings, and installs mirrors that read as part of the architecture rather than something hung on it.

Almost every mirror complaint we are called about traces back to measurement rather than material. A wall that reads as 72 inches at the counter is 71 and a half at the ceiling. Tile builds out a quarter inch more on one side than the other. A sconce box sits three-eighths off the centre line the drawings promised. Mirror glass cannot be trimmed on site the way a piece of trim can, so all of that has to be captured before the order goes in.
That is why we measure in person for anything larger than a small stock size. We check the wall for plumb, measure at several heights, locate every penetration relative to a fixed datum, and note whether the mirror lands on tile, drywall, plaster or an existing substrate that needs preparation. The fabricator then cuts to those numbers, and the panel arrives fitting the room it was measured in.

Mounting method matters as much as the glass: adhesive, J-channel, clips and standoffs each suit different substrates, weights and future removal expectations, and picking the wrong one on a large panel is how mirrors end up bowed or, worse, on the floor.
In bathrooms and gyms we also plan for moisture and impact. Backing quality, edge sealing, ventilation behind the panel and safety backing on high-traffic walls all change how long a mirror survives in real use.

Mounting method is chosen from the substrate, the panel weight and whether the mirror will ever need to come off again. All four methods below are in regular use.

Panel weight, substrate condition and blocking behind the wall are confirmed on site before a method is committed to.
Mirror shows every deviation in the surface behind it. A bowed or wavy wall produces visible distortion, which is why large panels are sometimes better on standoffs than glued flat.
Drywall, tile, plaster and masonry each take fasteners differently. Heavy panels may need blocking behind the finish, which is easier to add during construction than after.
Mirror is heavy, and weight rises quickly with area and thickness. Very large panels may be split into sections for handling, access and safety.
A panel that fits the wall still has to get through the door, up the stairs and around the landing. We check the delivery route before agreeing a single-piece size.
Bathrooms, steam rooms and pool areas are hard on mirror backing. Edge treatment, ventilation behind the panel and product selection all extend service life.
Sconces, outlets, switches, brackets and mirror-mounted TVs must be located precisely, because cut-outs are made at the fabricator and cannot be adjusted on site.
Polished, beveled and seamed edges look and cost different. Thicker glass is flatter and more rigid but heavier and more expensive.
Gyms, schools, stairwells and public spaces are common places to specify safety-backed mirror. Requirements for a particular occupancy are determined with the design team and the AHJ.
Altitude, dry air and hard water make mirrors behave differently here than they do at sea level.
Front Range water leaves mineral deposits quickly, and on mirrors they show as a haze that resists ordinary cleaning. Squeegeeing after showers and cleaning with an appropriate product keeps the surface clear far longer than any coating alone.
Mirror mastic cures partly through moisture exposure, and Colorado's dry air slows that. Panels need to stay supported for longer than the tube's stated time, which affects the installation sequence.
Well-sealed new homes trap bathroom moisture unless extraction is genuinely working. Standing moisture at a mirror's bottom edge is the main cause of backing damage we see.
Unconditioned home gyms and garage conversions cycle widely in temperature. Mounting methods that allow slight movement outperform rigid full-bed adhesive on very large panels in those rooms.
Plaster walls in older neighbourhoods are rarely flat or plumb. Standoffs and clips usually give a better result there than adhesive, which telegraphs every undulation into the reflection.
Strong daylight is unforgiving on installation quality. Joints, edge chips and slight out-of-level are far more visible in a Colorado bathroom at midday than the same work would be elsewhere.
Nearly every mirror problem we are asked to correct started as a decision made before the glass was ordered.
Walls are not parallel. A single measurement at counter height produces a panel that binds at the top or leaves a visible gap. We measure at several points and cut to the smallest.
Tile thickness, trim and grout lines change the finished dimensions. Measuring before the finish is on the wall is the most common source of a mirror that does not fit.
A single-piece mirror that fits the wall perfectly is useless if it cannot turn the stairwell. Access is checked before a one-piece size is agreed.
Adhered mirrors rarely survive removal, and the wall behind them rarely does either. If the mirror may be replaced later, clips or channel are the better choice.
A large unbacked mirror in a room with dropped weights is a foreseeable hazard. Safety backing is inexpensive relative to the panel and should be discussed for every fitness space.
A mirror set tight to a wet countertop wicks water into the backing. A small gap, a bead of sealant at the right place, or J-channel with drainage all prevent the black creep along the edge.

Yes, and that is exactly why we field measure. Cut-out coordinates are taken from a fixed datum and the openings are made at the fabricator. Mirror cannot be safely drilled or notched on site once it is cut.
One quarter inch is the common thickness for most wall mirrors. Larger panels, feature installations and applications where flatness matters may use thicker glass, which is more rigid but noticeably heavier.
Yes. Most builder mirrors are adhered with mastic and clips, and removal usually damages the wall surface underneath. We include removal in the quote and tell you in advance if wall repair is likely.
Often, but the method changes. Tile is rarely perfectly flat and adhesive is less predictable on it, so clips or standoffs are usually preferred. We confirm after seeing the wall.

Yes. Bronze, grey and antique-effect mirrors are available through our suppliers. Because the effect varies between production runs, we recommend approving a physical sample before ordering a large area.
Backing damage usually comes from standing moisture at the edges and poor ventilation rather than humidity itself. Colorado's hard water also spots mirrors quickly. Good extraction, a small gap behind the panel and regular cleaning all help.
Rarely. Handling, access and weight normally make several panels with tight joints the better answer. We plan joint locations so they fall where they are least noticeable.
