What drives a window replacement estimate
Glass makeup
Clear versus low-E, argon fill, annealed versus tempered or laminated, and overall unit thickness. Each step changes the fabricated cost of the unit.
Size and weight
Large picture units and tall stairwell glazing may need additional installers or lifting equipment, which affects labour before any glass cost is counted.
Access
A ground-floor bedroom is straightforward. An upper-storey unit over a landscaped bed, a balcony-only approach, or glazing above a roof line requires planning and sometimes equipment.
Frame condition
If the pocket has to be repaired, squared or re-sealed before the new unit is set, that work is scoped separately and honestly rather than absorbed and rushed.
Quantity
Several openings in one visit share mobilisation and usually price better per unit than the same openings addressed one at a time over months.
Shape and template work
Rectangles are measured. Arches, angles and out-of-square historic openings are templated, and template work adds a visit.
Safety-glazing requirements
Where the location of the opening calls for tempered or laminated glass, the makeup cannot be substituted downward to save money.
Schedule
Work outside occupied business hours, or phased around tenants, is planned deliberately and priced for the hours it actually takes.
Why Denver windows fail the way they do
The Front Range is unusually hard on sealed glass units. Understanding why helps set realistic expectations about what replacement will and will not solve.
Altitude and pressure differential
Units fabricated at low elevation and installed along the Front Range experience a real pressure difference across the cavity. Suppliers address this with capillary tubes or by fabricating at altitude, and the choice should be discussed rather than assumed.
Extreme daily temperature swings
A forty-degree swing between a sunny afternoon and a clear night cycles the sealant and spacer relentlessly. That cycling, repeated for years, is the most common reason a seal eventually gives up.
Intense high-altitude UV
Thinner atmosphere means more ultraviolet energy reaching the perimeter seal, accelerating degradation compared with the same window at sea level.
Hail

There is fog between the panes. Do I need a whole new window?+
Usually not. Fogging means the sealed insulated unit has failed. If the frame, sash and hardware are sound, the glass unit alone can be replaced and the window keeps working. A full unit is only warranted when the frame itself is at the end of its life.
Can a failed insulated glass unit be resealed or drained?+
Defogging services exist, but they remove moisture without restoring the sealed cavity, the desiccant or the gas fill. Abricos Glass replaces the unit rather than offering a treatment that leaves the underlying failure in place.
How long does a replacement take from approval?+
Field measurement usually happens within days of approval; after that the schedule is driven by the fabricator's lead time for your makeup and size. Installation of a single glass unit is typically part of one day. We give you the supplier's date once the order is placed.
Do you replace windows in occupied homes and offices?+
Yes. Most of our replacement work is in occupied buildings. Openings are protected, one at a time is kept open, and the space is cleaned before we leave.
Which windows need tempered or laminated glass?+
Safety glazing is commonly required near doors, close to floor level, in bathrooms and wet areas, and adjacent to stairs and landings. The exact triggers depend on the adopted code edition and the Authority Having Jurisdiction, and we flag the openings we believe are affected during measurement.
Will new glass lower my energy bills?+
Replacing a failed unit restores the thermal performance the glass was designed to deliver, and a low-E, argon-filled makeup performs better than old clear double glazing. The size of the change depends on how many openings are affected and how the rest of the envelope performs, so we describe the improvement rather than promise a figure.
Can you match the look of my existing windows?+
